Screw Dynamic Island, the iPhone 14 Pro cameras are where it's at
Took a recent vacation and my iPhone 14 Pro Max cameras proved worthy of high praise
As I said in one of my previous newsletters, the iPhone 14 Pro is the first iPhone worthy to be named a “Pro” phone. It packs in a punch in every regard, except in one: the cameras. With the cameras, it doesn’t throw a punch; it’s a whole punch, kick, and karate chop.
In all seriousness, the cameras on the iPhone 14 Pro are beyond impressive (dare I say they’re the best iPhone cameras ever!). I recently took a trip to Dubai and wanted to share some of the pictures I took. I took most of the photos using the new 48MP sensor in RAW format, which takes a ridiculous amount of storage space per photo (up to 75MB).
But the quality of the images, as a result, is stunning. Let me preface this by saying I’m not a camera expert. I know a good photo when I see one, and that’s one of the iPhone’s greatest hallmarks.
While Apple has increased the level of control photographers and cinematographers have with the cameras, it remains simple and powerful. You don’t need to be an expert to take great photos; just point, shoot and let the iPhone do the rest.
All of the following images are untouched, taken straight off of the iPhone’s cameras1. More thoughts after the photos.
There are a few more photos I thought would be worth highlighting standalone. The following picture perhaps impressed me the most. Not alone is the iPhone kicking into Night Mode and doing an impressive job, but the control of exposure from the street lights to the darkness of the sky is *a chef kiss*.
In this other photo, the iPhone camera had a more challenging time. The iPhone struggled with Night Mode and several light sources possibly clashing with one another (the dots of lights artifact are typical with iPhone photos). And for those asking, I was stationary when I took it, so motion isn’t a factor in this.
Lastly, I’ll leave you with this.
Short newsletter this time as I work on my 2nd YouTube video going up this week. Hint: it’s a gaming video.
